Expression of Interest for the TESIECS Academic Mobility Scholarship
Target group one: Students currently registered at, admitted to or who have obtained a degree (or equivalent) from one of the four TESIECS participating institutions namely: the University of Johannesburg, the University of the Western Cape, the University of Zimbabwe, the University of Botswana, and Namibia University of Science & Technology.
NB: Students may not apply for scholarships for programmes in their current participating institutions or in their current country of study and/or original home country. E.g., former and current University of Johannesburg students cannot apply for scholarships to study further at the University of Johannesburg or the University of the Western Cape. However, if they are South African citizens, they qualify to apply as target group one students at the University of Zimbabwe, University of Botswana, and Namibia University of Science & Technology.
Target group two: Students of any other public university in Africa. Students in this category may apply to any of the five TESIECS institutions.
NB: Women, the disadvantaged, the differently-abled, and minority groups are encouraged to apply. Additional support is available to meet the needs of the physically challenged.
Applicants should not be Intra – Africa Academic Mobility Scheme 2022-2027 scholarship beneficiaries.
Prospective candidates are required to submit 1-2 pages expression of interest alongside their applications for the TESIECS scholarship. The document must cover the following:
- Introduction – Introduce yourself and what your life goals are
- Academic credentials, achievements, professional experiences (if any), and new skills that are needed.
- Reasons for applying for scholarship and how your study goals link to TESIECS climate change and innovative environmental solutions theme
- Statement of what impact you want to make in the community, labour market, Africa and the rest of the world after the scholarship and qualifications have been awarded/attained.
- Contact details – postal/physical/ email addresses and telephone numbers.

Expression of Interest for the TESIECS Peer-Reviewed UKZN Press Publication
TESIECS (Towards Enhancing Sustainable and Innovative Environmental Change Solutions) is an Intra-Africa academic mobility programme that supports academic mobility, research collaboration, capacity development, and knowledge exchange across participating African higher education institutions.
The proposed edited volume seeks to capture and showcase part of the programme’s scholarly and intellectual legacy by creating a platform through which research, experiences, and knowledge emerging from the TESIECS network can contribute to broader African and international conversations on sustainability, environmental innovation, resilience, knowledge production, and sustainable futures.
As the programme continues to foster a vibrant network of scholars, researchers, supervisors, and institutional partners across the continent, this publication provides an opportunity to document, reflect on, and disseminate the insights, achievements, and innovations that have emerged through these collaborations. It also aims to highlight the transformative impact of African scholarship, partnership, and academic mobility in addressing contemporary challenges and shaping sustainable futures.
We warmly invite TESIECS scholars, supervisors, researchers, and partners to contribute to this exciting publication initiative and to help showcase the impact of African scholarship, collaboration, innovation, and academic mobility across the continent.
WHO IS INVITED TO CONTRIBUTE?
The call is primarily directed to the TESIECS academic community, including:
- TESIECS master’s students
- TESIECS Doctoral students
- Supervisors
- Academics and researchers within TESIECS partner institutions and
- Other scholars associated with the Intra-Africa Mobility Scheme whose work is relevant to the volume.
Collaborative contributions involving Intra-Africa Mobility emerging scholars, supervisors, and researchers across TESIECS partner institutions are particularly encouraged, reflecting the cross-border and collaborative nature of the programme.

Expression of Interest for the TESIECS Traineeship Mobilities
For the traineeship application, please download and carefully read the Guidelines Document. You should also download and complete the Learning Agreement Form, which must be submitted together with the following supporting documents:
- Proof of current registration
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Reference letters
Please note that this application is only open to students from TESIECS Consortium partner institutions. Both currently registered undergraduate and postgraduate students are eligible to apply.
